Perunnadassery was a prominent ezhava channar family of Kadakkavoor, Thiruvananthapuram. Around 1850 ,there were two brothers named Kali Asan and Chathan Asan. They were traditional coconut growers and they used to sell dry coconuts in Alappuzha. They had the so called kettu vallam, a type of boat. They happened to meet two brahmin sisters of Chathanoor Mana. They at last married these two brothers. Savithri Antarjanam married Kali Asan and formed Arunassery family. Her younger sister married Chathan Asan and formed Mavila Family. The Channars of Mavila and Arunassery became powerful in Kadakkavoor area. They owned plenty of lands. Savithri Antarjanam's name is in legal documents of Arunassery. JudgeM.Govindan (1930) and MLA R.Prakasam(father of MLA Jameela Prakasam) were SNDP heads. They hail from Mavila. MLA U Neelandan and Thiru kochi minister Kunjiraman hails from Arunassery. Savithri Antharjanam and Kali asan had only one daughter. She inherited Arunassery according to Marumakkathayam. She had five daughters. One of them had no children. Her share went to the Munduvilakom Devi temple controlled by Arunassery Channars. Others formed sub families named Arunassery itself, Valiyavilakom, Pandaravilakom and Kuttakkuvilakom. The traditional occupation was coconut growing. They were helped by Thandar people, a tree climbing caste. For toddy tapping, vaduga ezhavas were brought from Alappuzha. At first they sold dry coconuts in Alappuzha. Later local Chettiar people used to buy them. Then in later times, they became doctors, engineers and lawyers. Current DME Dr. V. Geetha is from Arunassery. Current Women's Commission Justice D SreeDevi is related to this family. Current Kovalam MLA Jameela Prakasham and Kannur university VC Chandramohan are related to this family.
